By Train

Geneva can be reached very easily by train with its three railway stations at the core of Europe’s rail network. The Swiss Railway network reaches every corner of Switzerland. And France’s high-speed trains TGV from Paris reach Geneva’s main railway station (Gare Cornavin) in just three hours!

When you arrive to the Gare Cornavin, please proceed to the Place de Cornavin to get on a tram / bus to reach your hotel. The free ticket claimed at the airport is valid for 80 minutes, therefore, it can be used for the tram/bus journey to get your hotel. Please do check the tram/bus line to be used and the station to get off with your hotel before your arrival to the city.

By Car

Geneva is located at the crossroads of the European motorway network. A perfect city for a perfect city break - or a weekend – on the way from North to South.

The N1 motorway alongside Lake Geneva circles the city and leads straight into the centre. At the French border in Bardonnex, it joins the A40 towards Lyon and Paris, or Chamonix and Italy.

Access to the Swiss motorways requires a motorway tax sticker (40 CHF), available at post offices, at the border or at garages.

Driving speed:

In town: 50 km/hr (some zones 30 km/hr)

Outside built-up areas (national roads): 80 km/hr

Motorways: 120 km/hr

The wearing of seat belts both in front and back seats of vehicles is compulsory.

TRANSPORTATION TO GENEVA CITY FROM THE AIRPORT

Genève-Aéroport is the final (and the first) train station for all trains coming to/departing from Geneva city. All trains departing from Geneva Airport station stop in the city centre of Geneva in Gare Cornavin. It is only a 7-minutes trip between the two stations, up to seven trains per hour at peak hours.

Geneva Airport offers passengers on arrival a free ticket to use public transport in Geneva for 80 minutes, including the journey by train from Geneva Airport to Gare Cornavin. The free tickets can be picked-up from the ticket machine in the baggage reclaim area (Arrivals), just next to the Info desk. Kindly note that there are no additional ticket machines to claim these free tickets when you exit this area, therefore, please keep in mind to get your free ticket before leaving the baggage reclaim hall.

It is required to keep your flight ticket during the usage of this free ticket which may be asked in the case of a ticket control in the train.
